good scan tool. But test equipment can be expensive, and budgets can be

A portable scanner is now as essential to the automotive
technician as a good set of wrenches. But up to now, you had to lay out
serious money for a scanner that could pinpoint driveability
problems on 1996 and newer GM, Ford, Chrysler, Asian and European OBD II
vehicles.
The OTC Palm Scan OBD II scanner module adapts the
popular Palm and Handspring PDA (Personal Digital Assistant) units to scan
tool troubleshooting, at a budget-pleasing price. The tester fits the palm of
your hand, and a couple of AAA batteries provide power, lasting up to four
weeks, depending upon usage.
The PDA is a natural for the shop. Applications will
continue to be written for PDAs in the coming
years, to accommodate future technologies such as wireless and internet
upgrades and data interchange. (Palm OS 3.5.2H3, comes with Built-in
Software Data Book+, Address Book, To Do List, Memo Pad, Fast Lookup,
Advanced Calculator, City Time Work Clock, Graffiti Handwriting Software.)
Finding intermittent failures is a snap. Up to now, you
had to ask a customer to drive the car for a couple of days, hoping a
trouble code would be set. Now you can just attach this portable PDA-based

any Handspring Visor expansion port, creating a portable, low-cost automotive
lag scope.
Designed for use with the Handspring Visor PDA (Personal
Data Assistant), this battery-operated, 2 –channel lab scope module makes
scope ownership truly affordable. A Component or circuit can be selected to
auto-configure the scope settings. Line cursors are not needed; the
snap-to-signal cursor feature lets you select a point in the waveform just
by tapping on the touch screen display.
An accurate cursor value will display regardless of the
voltage range setting. Absolute and relative voltage, frequency and span
are automatically calculated between two cursors. Ideal for those
fast-occurring events, which can be missed by a scan tool.
